To ensure that our diamonds are safe, we utilize an in-house Geiger
counter. If you’re in the jewelry trade, you should always have
your own Geiger counter on hand to check the safety not only of colored
diamonds, but other gems.
The importance of this was illustrated in 1998 when hundreds of dangerously
radioactive cat's-eye chryso-beryls circulated through Asian markets
- with few of them even finding their way to the US. The levels of
radioactivity in these cat’s-eye were more than 50 times the
limit deemed acceptable in the US. The gems were allegedly treated
at a nuclear facility in Indonesia and released before the radioactivity
could have dissipated.
The only way to ensure that such radioactive gemstones do not contaminate
your inventory, tarnish your image and endanger anyone’s life
is by always buying from established and reliable suppliers who test
their gems regularly, while always double-checking the safety of your
stones by testing them yourself. Lotus
assures our customers that all our diamonds are safely enhanced, and
they contain no residual levels of radiation. We adhere to the US
standard (level measured at 1.0 nCi/g), which is the strictest in
the world. |
